Hi There! Thanks for stopping by!
Since a very young age, art has been a passion of mine. Looking back, I see how my love for creating art and bringing things to life has always been my way of expressing raw emotions. My work is and has always been the outcome of different circumstances and situations, good and bad, that I have faced through life thus far. The older I got, the more art became an important part of my life. I thought seriously of pursuing art as a career but I was frequently warned about the notion of the "starving artist". With the help of good advice from a couple wise people I know (my parents), I decided to put my art studies on hold for a couple years and earn a degree in the Healthcare Field. I figured if something ever happened and I couldn't ever paint or draw again, I'd have something to fall back on. I graduated a year later with my Associates of Applied Science in Polysomnography. I was set. After that, I picked up right where I left off. I went back to finish my art degree. I graduated from Lee University with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in May, 2015. |
Shortly after graduation, I got into teaching. I taught Visual Arts at Hendersonville Christian Academy to kids from 1st to 12th grade. Being an alumni of HCA, I was blessed to be back teaching something I am extremely passionate about. I loved seeing how the wonders of art unfolded to curious minds and being there when students, who had little to no confidence in their artistic abilities, produced a work of art they were proud to call their own. There's nothing more rewarding than hearing a student say , "wow, I never thought I could do something like that!".
Although I loved teaching, I was so physically and mentally exhausted by the end of the day that I didn't have any energy left in me to work on any art work. So, I left teaching to pursue my passion of illustration more seriously. I am now an award winning, published children's book illustrator and have been a part of some really great projects so far.
My preferred mediums include water color and ink. However, I often work with oils, acrylics, color pencils, charcoal, graphite, and ceramics. I've also dabbled in interior and prop design.
Although it is hard to see at times, I believe there is beauty in everything and I will do all I can to prove it to those who believe otherwise. I am grateful for every breath that is given to me and I want to live the rest of my life in gratitude to the One who sustains, teaches, and guides me.
